Read the seasons and dates together
Kansas City’s first championship with Mahomes closed the 2019 season, but Super Bowl LIV was played in February 2020. The same convention places the February 2023 and February 2024 wins in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Use the season label when comparing statistics and the calendar date when identifying an event, photograph or collectible.
The arc below separates the move into the starting role from the championship years. Reaching the AFC Championship Game, winning it and winning the Super Bowl are three different milestones. Seven consecutive AFC title-game appearances in the 2018–2024 span produced five Super Bowl appearances; the losses remain part of that history.
